We aim to provide a stage for our members to
convey their voices to the world. Through
intense mock debates and interactive classes,
we help our members practice debate for future
tournaments where they can showcase their
talent and bring pride to our institution's club.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

WSDC

Bangladesh at the World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC) 2022. Starting in eighth grade, Shayor gained insight into the art of debate through various tournaments and competitions. He was part of the team that won the Asian Online Debating Competition in 2022 and the gold quarterfinalists of the Doxbridge worlds in 2022. He was a part of the national debating team in both 2021 and 2022, having been the captain in the 2022 WSDC. Through long and arduous preparation periods, Shayor led his team to victories against teams such as the USA, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey and New Zealand and made it to the quarterfinals. He has shown to be a reliable and resilient leader through his experience in WSDC 2022, and we cannot be prouder of him.

NDDC

From the 30th to the 2nd of July, our club members participated in the 33rd NDDC Nationals, a prestigious debate tournament organized by the Notre Dame College Debate Club. The competition followed the British Parliamentary format. The speakers sent from DPS STS School were Ahana Tanjim Khan, Aswad Jahan Mahi, Nazia Maisha Chowdhury and Fahmida Afreen. Our core team member Shayor Ahmad Khan was one of the members of the equity panel at the event, as well as a breaking adjudicator. At the end of the tournament, Nazia Maisha Chowdhury and Fahmida Afreen were crowned the champions of the novice category. We are incredibly proud of their achievements!

INTRA-SCHOOL DEBATE TOURNAMENTS

Held in the years 2021 and 2022, the tournament aimed to break members out of their shells through an online intraschool competition. With over 100 debaters, the members portrayed their excellent speaking skills on an online stage of numerous judges, spectators, teachers and more.

INTER-SCHOOL DEBATE TOURNAMENT

In August 2022, the club was delighted to fulfil its long dream of hosting an interschool debate tournament. With 40 teams from various educational institutes of Dhaka, the successful competition proved that not only does the school have excellent debaters, but they also consist of leaders capable of directing a large-scale tournament. With gripping motions and intense debates, the two-day competition set a standard for events at the DPS STS.

THE COACH

Our esteemed coach Zobayer Ahmed has dedicated his Saturdays to teaching our members the art of debate to blossom into incredible and brilliant speakers. He participated in the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Round Robin 2019 in America and was a finalist in the East-West Inter University Debate Championship in 2017 and 2018. One of his most significant achievements was being a part of the champion team of the United Asian Debate Championship in 2018, held in Indonesia. He also led his teams to victory at the Dristy Game of Logic - Inter University Debate Championship and the Dhaka Inter University Debate Championship, both held in 2019. He has been an adjudicator of many debate tournaments, and his expertise has been helping our eager members learn to debate.
